Next Generation Fibre to the Cabinet
Where we state unlimited downloads and uploads we really do mean it. There are no restrictions that come into effect based on what you download or when you download it.
Our policy is to ensure we have more than enough bandwidth, to meet the needs of all our customers, at all times. By doing so we don't feel the need to apply shaping restrictions to slow you down.
In the event of unusually high traffic on our network, such as a particularly large and popular Microsoft update, we do reserve the right to slow some activities down to ensure that core services that customers which to access remain fast and unaffected until the unusual traffic patterns subside.
The speeds your line can achieve can be affected by lots of factors. Not all customers can receive the headline speeds advertised. To get an indication of what speeds your line may be able to support please visit our availability checker tool. The most accurate result will be achieved using an Openreach based phone number as opposed to the post code / address check.
Premium connections are placed on a 'premium profile' for bandwidth the exchange network; effectively, if our carriers own network becomes congested during peak times, these connections have priority over other connections reducing the effects of contention.
Enhanced Care ensures you get the quickest response times from Openreach. It's not an service level agreement (SLA), so there sadly isn't compensation if the following aims aren't met, but it does help ensure that your fault are at the top of their lists.
It is completely free to switch your broadband to CIX. If you don't have broadband activated, we will cover the costs of activation. For those who already have broadband, we will cover the migration costs of switching to us.
This is subject to our standard contract lengths which is only 1 month for ADSL connections, and 12 months for FTTC.
Available to you is a FREE PSTN LINE INSTALLATION promotion when ordered with our Broadband. How this operates is simple:
All our broadband connections are supported by an online control panel. The control panel portal adds another dimension to your connection providing you with real-time information and diagnostics.
Please use our broadband checker for an indication of the maximum speeds your line can support
There are no restrictions on the amount you download. No fair usage policies, and no time of day restrictions, just a promise that we will do our best to deliver enough bandwidth within our own network to ensure that we can deliver fast connection speeds to all our users throughout the day.
Much the same as our download policy, you are free to upload as much data from your connection as your connection can deliver. There are no shaping restrictions to hinder or slow what you want to upload regardless of the time of day.
Our G.Fast packages are capable of delivering download speeds of up to 330Mbps. This is the fastest broadband package we deliver short of delivering fibre directly to your premises. Any element of accessing the Internet instantly becomes noticeably quicker using this technology.
Sometimes you need to send data from your connection, and the upload speed is important. Our packages are capable of delivering upload speeds of up to 50Mbps depending on the length and quality of your line. Our checker tools will provide you an estimate prior to order.
An Openreach engineer will visit to connect your line to G.Fast. They will supply a modem suitable for this technology. You need to ensure you have a cable router to connect to this modem for the purpose of authentication and sharing the connection on your network.
Our broadband control panel provides you visibility and control over your connection. Login and you can not only manage your account from a billing perspective, but you can remotely take charge of your connection.
Our usage statistics are updated every 30 minutes. They can provide a valuable insight into how your connection is performing and how and when it is used. Whether you use this for home or business purposes the results can be very interesting.
We fully support IPv6 on our ADSL platform. You can have both a free IPv4 address and a massive /48 IPv6 range at no additional cost. Only when you require additional or static IPv4 addresses do additional fees apply.
Our SMTP service allows you to send emails via our servers. We can supply access with STARTTLS secure authentication and multiple port numbers to choose from for use on your connection as well as away from home.
All our support operates from our head office in South London. Phone calls are answered by trained and experienced staff who between them have handled 100,000's of broadband queries over the years. If you don't want to call, email in and the same team will reply to you regardless of the question.
You can think of G.Fast as a superfast variant of FTTC. It's still using fibre to the cabinet technology, thus fibre is run to the cabinet, and the G.Fast signal is carried over your phone line into the premises. G.Fast requires the cabinet to be upgraded to support new technology, and it requires a relatively short phone line to the cabinet (no greater than 250 meters). Very high frequency signals, combined with a short line length, allows for super fast speeds significantly higher than FTTC.
It's not easy for us to show the line length prior to order. What's more important is whether the broadband checker tool shows availability. If they answer is yes, then Openreach have upgraded your cabinet and have completed checks which determine your line length to be compatible. If the checker shows no availability then one or both of these conditions haven't been met, and we're not able to influence that decision.
Yes, a normal standard PSTN line is required in order for us to deliver the circuit. This can be supplied by ourselves, or you can use a 3rd party provider as long as it's an Openreach based phone line our checkers show G.Fast availability for.
Currently G.Fast requires an Openreach engineer to visit your premises by appointment to connect the service and upgrade the face plate of your phone socket. In doing so they will supply a modem suitable for this technology. The modem needs to be connected to a suitable router capable of PPPoE authentication and supporting the speeds ordered (ie make sure it supports up to gigabit connectivity). The router is something you need to source yourself, CIX doesn't supply this, but should you have any queries on compatibility feel free to email us details of your choice for clarification.
Our in-house developed control panel provides you with visibility of your connection. This can be helpful in understanding usage, making in-flight changes to IP addresses and reverse DNS, through to modifications to your product type.
To confirm whether fibre is available in your area, and the predicted speeds for your phone line or address, please use our broadband availability checker. Within seconds you will have an accurate idea of what you can expect from a connection from CIX.
