Fibre to the Premises
Where we state unlimited downloads and uploads we really do mean it. There are no restrictions that come into effect based on what you download or when you download it.
Our policy is to ensure we have more than enough bandwidth, to meet the needs of all our customers, at all times. By doing so we don't feel the need to apply shaping restrictions to slow you down.
In the event of unusually high traffic on our network, such as a particularly large and popular Microsoft update, we do reserve the right to slow some activities down to ensure that core services that customers which to access remain fast and unaffected until the unusual traffic patterns subside.
The speeds your line can achieve can be affected by lots of factors. Not all customers can receive the headline speeds advertised. To get an indication of what speeds your line may be able to support please visit our availability checker tool. The most accurate result will be achieved using an Openreach based phone number as opposed to the post code / address check.
Premium connections are placed on a 'premium profile' for bandwidth the exchange network; effectively, if our carriers own network becomes congested during peak times, these connections have priority over other connections reducing the effects of contention.
Enhanced Care ensures you get the quickest response times from Openreach. It's not an service level agreement (SLA), so there sadly isn't compensation if the following aims aren't met, but it does help ensure that your fault are at the top of their lists.
It is completely free to switch your broadband to CIX. If you don't have broadband activated, we will cover the costs of activation. For those who already have broadband, we will cover the migration costs of switching to us.
This is subject to our standard contract lengths which is only 1 month for ADSL connections, and 12 months for FTTC.
Available to you is a FREE PSTN LINE INSTALLATION promotion when ordered with our Broadband. How this operates is simple:
All our broadband connections are supported by an online control panel. The control panel portal adds another dimension to your connection providing you with real-time information and diagnostics.
NOTE: Transition FTTP pricing requires a PSTN line rental to be held with CIX. PSTN subscription charges are in addition to the subscription prices shown.
Please use our broadband checker for an indication of the maximum speeds your line can support
There are no restrictions on the amount you download. No fair usage policies, and no time of day restrictions, just a promise that we will do our best to deliver enough bandwidth within our own network to ensure that we can deliver fast connection speeds to all our users throughout the day.
Much the same as our download policy, you are free to upload as much data from your connection as your connection can deliver. There are no shaping restrictions to hinder or slow what you want to upload regardless of the time of day.
By directly serving your property with fibre we can deliver speeds up to 330Mb downstream, with the potential to upgrade higher in the future when exchange technology improves.
Upload speeds can be as high as 30Mb. This is the next best alternative to fibre Ethernet circuits which offer symmetrical speeds, but for a much high subscription cost.
With FTTP an Openreach ONT is delivered to site. This acts as a modem, so all you need is a cable router to connect to the ONT via the RJ45 port number allocated. Your router must support PPPoE authentication with a username and password we supply you with. Please ensure the router support speeds up to a gigabit. CIX does not supply any hardware.
Our broadband control panel provides you visibility and control over your connection. Login and you can not only manage your account from a billing perspective, but you can remotely take charge of your connection.
Our usage statistics are updated every 30 minutes. They can provide a valuable insight into how your connection is performing and how and when it is used. Whether you use this for home or business purposes the results can be very interesting.
We fully support IPv6 on our ADSL platform. You can have both a free IPv4 address and a massive /48 IPv6 range at no additional cost. Only when you require additional or static IPv4 addresses do additional fees apply.
Our SMTP service allows you to send emails via our servers. We can supply access with STARTTLS secure authentication and multiple port numbers to choose from for use on your connection as well as away from home.
All our support operates from our head office in South London. Phone calls are answered by trained and experienced staff who between them have handled 100,000's of broadband queries over the years. If you don't want to call, email in and the same team will reply to you regardless of the question.
FTTP is a premium solution designed to service consumer and business markets. It has typically been rolled out in areas where FTTC isn't available. The fibre technology provides the customer with a fibre path to the exchange without the need for cabinets or any copper. FTTPoD (on Demand) is available to FTTC enabled areas where Openreach will make use of existing fibre to cabinet locations, and deliver a bespoke solution to the end user. Currently CIX is not offering FTTPoD due to substantial construction charges which makes it unattractive to a mass market currently.
FTTP Transition pricing is available where a copper PSTN is in place at the premises serviced by Openreach. To be eligible for the Transition Pricing, WLR needs to be owned by the same legal entity (or entity within the same Group of Companies). The line rental element must by installed by or transferred to CIX in order to benefit from the transition pricing. Should the PSTN element cease or migrate away data only pricing will apply. The data / transition pricing is as a result of price differentiation from our carriers, we are simply passing these on.
FTTP installations are bespoke to your premises. Whilst every effort is made by Openreach to avoid costly routes or delays, sometimes they are inevitable. Where possible they will generally take the same path as a line rental would into the premises, even taking paths using overhead cables. This can help speed up the delivery process and avoid ECC (excess construction charges). Should additional charges be deemed necessary you will be advised of these and can reject the order if they are too high. Owing to the bespoke nature of delivery it's impossible to give a definitive timescale. Where an existing ONT is available, circuits can be live within 24 hours. Generally where fibre needs to be delivered it is advisable to plan for a minimum of 4-12 weeks lead time, but this can be much longer depending on engineering resource and the challenges to deliver.
Lots of factors can influence the speeds you achieve based on local capacity at the exchange and within CIX's own network. The following are advised acceptable minimum speeds from our carrier, although in reality you achieved speed should be closer to the headline speeds.
|FTTP End User Downstream Throughput Rates|
(Downstream / Upstream)
|Standard Minimum Best Efforts Downstream Throughput (Mbps)|
Our in-house developed control panel provides you with visibility of your connection. This can be helpful in understanding usage, making in-flight changes to IP addresses and reverse DNS, through to modifications to your product type.
To confirm whether fibre is available in your area, and the predicted speeds for your phone line or address, please use our broadband availability checker. Within seconds you will have an accurate idea of what you can expect from a connection from CIX.
